A real life example of a transformation would be a clock and its hands. This is a rotation because the minute hand, hour hand, and second hand all move clockwise. All the hands would form an angle of rotation with the position they were previously at and the position they moved to. The center of rotation would be the center of the clock that all the hands rotate around. Therefore, the clock would be considered a transformation (rotation).

A real life example of a transformation is moving furniture throughout the house. For example, if you wanted to move it from one room to another it probably isn't just as simple as pushing it in a straight line. You would probably have to push it in one direction(translation) push it in another(translation) and rotate it so that it can fit in a doorway. Then you might ave to translate it some more and rotate it till it fits.

A real life example of rotations would be when you are playing basketball and you cant dribble any more you put one foot down your center of rotations and pivot or rotate to see who you can pass too. This way you see all your options before making your move.

A real life example of a transformation is a plane taking off from the runway. Its methods of slowly ascending is a translation and can be represented by a vector.

Another example of rotation is in a simple motor. The electricity causes the wire to rotate.

A real life transformation is when kicking a soccer ball. When kicking a soccer ball, there are two things happening. First the ball is traveling through the air, changing its position. This is called a translation. Also, the ball is rotating in air as it is traveling. This is called a rotations. In this action, there are two transformations happening.

a real life example of a translation is when your playing with a sliding puzzle (like those things that have these little squares you slide around to form a picture). you translate the squares up, down, left, and right to rearrange them into the original picture and finish the puzzle.

An example of a real life transformation is a checkerboard. Each square is translated over with the start of every new square.

A real life example of a rotation would be the Earth's pivoting on its tilted axis - which is the center of rotation - at an angle of about 23.5 degrees.

When you try to score a goal in soccer, your feet rotates to a certain angle to make the most accurate shot possible.

I just realized that Hrishi said kind of the same thing so another example would be that your pivot foot rotates when playing basketball in order to pass the ball, fend off the defender, or shoot the ball.

An example of a real life transformation is when a bicycle rotates. The wheel rotates causing the bike to move forward. The bike stays the same, but the bike moves from one place to another. This is an example of a translation. Another example would be when the Earth revolves around the sun. The Earth stays the same, but it rotates around the sun without anything changing.

A type of transformation in every day life can be seen when a person turns a doorknob. When a person does this action, he or she is rotating the doorknob a certain number of degrees.

A real life example of a transformation would be when water is pushing down on a spinning gear to produce electricity. When the water pushes down on the gear, it starts to spin, thus creating energy which gets turned into electricity.

A real life example of a transformation is a Roomba. Roombas are vacuum machines that clean the floor by themselves. They rotate and translate at the same time, forming an example of a composition of isometry.

A real life example of transformations is skiing. When you go down the hill, your skis are being translated, and when you turn, your skis are rotated

A real life example is sledding down a slope as this is a translation and you can find this to be true using a translation vector. 3/26/2015 09:02:26 am
A real world transformation could also be a translation in the form of open the drawer within your desk. When the drawer is open, the front of the drawer is translated because it is now protruding from the desk compared to being located in the desk.

Just incase my first explanation is a bit confusing, I have thought of another transformation. Another transformation could be a rotation, on the globe. When the globe is rotated, it spins on an axis and all the continets are rotated which means they are in a different location.

A real world example of a rotation is a ferris wheel. The wheel rotates around the center of the circle and it has rotational symmetry when it does rotate.

One can find translations while examining sports on a 2-D plane. For example, in tennis, the ball is being constantly translated, as well as the players. The translations must meet at the exact same point for the player to return the ball. In addition, the swinging movement of a racket can be described as a rotation around the wrist.
